There is a portion in Book of Genesis that chronicled how God resolved to create Man in His own image.
The Bible recorded that God discussed with, His Angels, I suppose and asked them, “come, let us make Man in our own image”.
There are a lot of lessons that could be learned from the decision of God to ask His Angels to be involved in the process of making Man.
After all, God had made a lot of creatures before Man.
Certainly, Man is the most important creature to God and even though, He could go ahead and make Man as He deemed fit, yet, He carried along His Angels in the decision to make Man in His image.
This action is symbolic in that, man, no matter how powerful or highly placed must consider opinions of subordinates when important decisions are to be made.
I remember once writing about how I perceived that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been building the APC from his personal perception.
Events since then have tend to confirm this fears.
Starting from the time he was presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu have shown himself as someone who will run his shows on his own terms.
For example, he, it was who entered into some kind of agreements with the G-5 Governors without the input of the APC.
Incidentally, the agreement he had with those fellows have continued to hurt the APC, most especially in Oyo and Rivers states where the opposition have been enjoying patronage of his Government to the detriment of his own party, the APC.
In Rivers state, the president have been looking at things with the eyes of the former Governor of the state and Leader of the PDP G-5 Governors while he has continued to snub the APC.
Some have said that the president is doing what he is doing in Rivers state because the Leader of the APC in the state, Rotimi Amaechi did not support him during the general election.
I am not in the position to confirm or deny such assertions but I have a few questions.
Did the president ask for Amaechi’s support?
It is not hidden that the president as candidate then have been hobnobbing with Wike and his gang immediately after the APC primaries.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu already made a choice of how he would run things in Rivers state and his choice was Wike.
Only the treacherous would pretend not to know that Wike and Amaechi maintain a kind of fire and gun powder relationship and you could only go with either.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu made a choice and the choice was to abandon his own party and go to bed with the opposition.
That decision have led to the near extinction of the APC in Rivers state today.
I have kept wondering what exactly the president achieved in Rivers state.
I do not see anything. All I see is a loss.
I do not think Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at winning Rivers state then.
According to the results released by INEC, he would still have won regardless of the outcome of the presidential election in Rivers state.
If he thought the Governor of Rivers state who was considered Wike’s “boy” would be a gain, such thoughts should be in flames by now because the Governor of Rivers state have demonstrated that he is no one’s boy but a man of his own conscience.
In the end, we gained Wike in Rivers state and lost a party!
The same could be said about Oyo state.
The decision of the president to align with the PDP to shoot down the candidates of his own party, the APC, to me, is a terrible miscalculation.
The fellow who benefited from the unholy romance, Seyi Makinde is now the President’s most voiceferous critic.
Apart from that, Makinde is back in the PDP and is indeed the one championing the reorganisation of a party that will attempt to wrest power from him in 2027.
What an irony?
Political parties are platforms through which elective offices are sought.
Since the advent of party politics, the party is seen as being supreme.
Political parties are supposed to be the father of Government because in party politics, you can only be transported to elective offices through the structures of the political parties as the vehicle.
That was then.
Things have changed and pretty bad at such.
Those elected on the platforms of political parties now considered themselves as gods.
The political parties are run at the whims and caprices of those in Government.
Unfortunately, every harm done to the party by those in Government is a harm done to themselves in the long run.
When animosities begin to brew within a party, the very foundations of the party begins to weaken.
The PDP once boasted that It will rule Nigeria for sixty years.
It did not come to pass and why is that so?
It was like the proverbial kid, who after getting his belly filled, started searching for what will deflate his tummy.
The PDP did a lot of taking Nigerians for granted and got Its fingers burned but I do not think the party went to the extent of trading away Its own as we are presently witnessing in the APC.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to build a party after his fancy and in the process, he seems determined to go according to his wish.
With due respect to the president, those in the opposition that he has been romancing are like divorced women.
In most cases, they will trace their steps back to their former places of abode whether covertly or overtly.
Old friends are better than new ones.
The experience in Oyo and Rivers states should be a pointer.
We gained nothing from the ventures.
The bitter truth is that the APC will outlive this Administration but what shape will the president leave it?
Instead of building walls where there is no invasion, president Tinubu should consolidate on the existing structures of the APC and leave his door open for whoever wishes to join him to so do at their own volition.
It is interesting how the president have been throwing juice appointments to the opposition while members of his own party are going about with empty stomach.
SOLA ABEGUNDE.
