Following recent gubernatorial primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, the Federal Government has put some gladiators of the party on watch list.
The Oyo APC primary was recently won by a serving third term Senator Teslim Folarin.
A cabal within the presidency working in concert with some party leaders in Abuja were engrossed in the permutations and high tech politicking that eventually swayed victory in favour of Folarin.
Following this development, another leading gubernatorial aspirant, Chief Adebayo Adelabu who was a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, on Thursday officially dumped the APC for Accord.
Hours after Adelabu defected, some serving APC chieftains at the National level from the State were rumoured to be supporting Adelabu financially, and attempting further destruction of Oyo APC.
This development, this newspaper gathered angered some pro-Folarin forces within the presidency. They are going to take their pan of flesh on the Adelabu’s supporters especially those appointees of Mr. President.
These men apparently having the ears of Mr. President are expected to meet President Buhari moments after his return from his latest foreign trip, to spill beans.
“Yes, these men are offshoot of cabals within the presidency. Top on the list of the people they claimed security circle are closing in, on their alleged efforts to destroy APC in Oyo State are the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council, Mr. Zaccheus Adelabu; the Chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Adeolu Akande and Chairman, Nigerian Lottery Regulatory Agency, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle,” the source hinted.
“It may interest you to know that these Aso rock men within the presidency are monitoring developments across the States of the federation following the fallout of recent Party’s primaries.
“They are interested in ensuring that those party Chiefs appointed and serving under the Muhammadu Buhari administration are working towards strengthening the APC, before, during and after the 2023 General elections, ” the source added.
“The trio of Akande, Adelabu and Ibikunle are believed to be working and supporting Bayo Adelabu financially to run under Accord. This is viewed as anti-party and the presidency will wield big sticks on these aides.
“Folarin is on the good book of the Presidency and anything that can truncate his ambition especially from within the party is considered an affront and no rod will be spared against erring and supposed partymen, who are using resources of the State to pursue ambitions in the Accord,” the source hinted.
