Makinde Will Hand Over A Broken, Battered Oyo State To His Successor
” Pankara” in Yoruba refers to a piece of a broken calabash.
There is a Yoruba saying which demonstrates the worthlessness of a ” pankara”.
” Bi onigba ba pe igba re ni pankara, a si baa fi ko Ile”. If the owner of the calabash calls his calabash a broken piece, people will assist him to use the calabash to pack wastes.
That is the extent of the worthlessness of a broken calabash.
I do not envy whoever God has ordained to take over from Governor Seyi Makinde in 2027.
Such a person will have so much to contend with because the Oyo state that will be passed over by Governor Makinde is a piece of a broken calabash, ” pankara”.
Those who assisted in foisting Governor Seyi Makinde on Oyo state to enjoy another four years term of further plunder did Oyo state and Its citizens a great deal of disservice.
Some of us, before the 2023 general election knew that Oyo state can not survive another four years of waste and recklessness under Makinde.
Unfortunately, circumstances took hold of men of means and power and the fate we have to contend with is the one we feared so much.
Sometimes, I used to think that perhaps it is not that bad that God allows GSM to have a second bite of the cherry.
I wonder what another person in his shoes would have been going through now.
Such a person would have found himself in a very big mess by now.
Perhaps, that second term is God’s design to expose Makinde by Makinde.
What would the army of civil servants and staffs of Oyo state tertiary Institutions who are now beginning to see the Governor in his true colors have been doing with another person in those shoes as we speak?
Would they have understood and agreed with such a person that Makinde had emptied Oyo state before handing over to another person?
God surely works in mysterious ways!
As I write this piece, health workers in Oyo state have been on strike for about two weeks.
Staffs of tertiary Institutions in Oyo state have commenced a three days warning strike to press for a plethora of demands and unfulfilled promises.
A particular statement by the Staffs Union of the Polytechnic, Ibadan caught my attention.
The Union alleged among other things that Governor Seyi Makinde have been deducting about a billion Naira yearly from the IGR of the school to augment their salaries.
The allegations of the illegalities of Platinum Consultancy is always a recurring issue between Makinde and the Higher Institutions.
My take on this crucial matter is that the Unions of the tertiary Institutions share a lot of blame in this matter.
All the issues been canvassed now have been there throughout the first term of Seyi Makinde but the Unions allowed themselves to be deceived and taken on a ride by the Governor.
I recollect vividly well that shortly before the 2023 gubernatorial election, rumors have it that civil servants in Oyo state received some kind of ” blessings” in form of credit alerts.
I also recollect that this same civil servants bought or maybe, they were given T-shirts and face caps to organize a campaign rally to endorse Governor Makinde for a second term.
Question is, when they were singing and dancing ” Seyi e da” all over Ibadan, have they forgotten the gamut of failed promises or they decided to jettison them as a result of inducements?
Unfortunately, studies will be interrupted in Oyo state tertiary Institutions as a result of this protracted back and forth between the Governor and the Unions.
I will not lose focus on the main purport of this article because of the strikes.
If you go to public primary and secondary schools in Oyo state today, you will be shocked at the reality of the state of Education in Oyo state.
I must give kudos to school principals and the Parents/ Teachers Associations in Oyo state.
They are the ones driving whatever remains of the Vehicle of Education in the state.
Regardless of the lies by Governor Makinde and his spokespersons, parents have decided to take the destinies of their Children in their own hands.
They are cooperating with the PTAs to contribute funds where and when necessary to ensure that their children have something close to quality Education.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s five years have been characterized by lies, half truths and propaganda.
To say that Education is free in public primary and secondary schools in Oyo state is a wicked lie from the pit of hell.
His adventures in the Agricultural sector is ineffective and cosmetic to say the least.
He promised to turn the Farms settlements in Oyo state to Agric hubs.
With the exception of Fashola Farms, all you need to do is to go visit Eruwa Farms settlement and you will see what I am talking about and only God and Governor Makinde knows how much of billions in Loans that have gone down the drain.
Governor Seyi Makinde has deliberately embarked on cosmetic and unsustainable ventures this past five years and the situation could only get worse for the remaining three years.
Only God and the Governor knows the actual debts profile of the state at present.
People seem to have lost interest in following up as keeps increasing the debts profile at will.
He has collected five billion Naira to do, only God knows what in respect of Agbowo shopping complex.
It does appear that Agbowo will be an eyesore for his successor to tackle.
Sadly, the misadventures in Agbowo is binding for fifty years!
Whosoever wishes to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde should be in prayers from now.
Reason? Who is sure if the next Governor will not have to need to rent an office from where he will have to conduct the affairs of state?
No one can beat his or her chest that both the Governor’s office and the Government House will not be sold before 2027.
The next Governor must be preparing his mind on what to do with the liability called Light Up Oyo state Project.
I thought Governor Makinde promised to connect the streetlights to the Oyo state Independent Power project?
A couple of weeks ago, I went to see the ” Mini stadium” constructed by Governor Makinde in Igboora.
What a sight?!
Only God knows how Makinde’s Successor will handle the emptiness awaiting him.
Backlog of unpaid allowances, unpaid deductions, unresolved promotions without commensurate payment reflection, derelict and dilapidated infrastructures, a comatose Local Government Administration and poor Education sector.
Above all this, a scary debts profile!
May God save Makinde’s Successor.

We, all of us must however admit our faults.
The political class, the civil servants, artisans, most especially, the elites and the Media.
We all let our guards down for Governor Makinde to penetrate with maradonic skills.
He leveraged on the greed of the politicians who will do anything for their personal ambition to slice through the ranks of the politicians.
He knew the civil servants will be contented with little – the little of payment of salaries on the 25th of the month as if that doubles the value of the salaries, the little of 13th month salary, as if Aregbesola didn’t do same in Osun and Ajimobi also did, the little that will make them keep quiet, even when they knew that the same Governor is owing them monthly deductions in billions of Naira!
The elites also have their fair share of blames.
They are the analysts who polluted the Radio waves with the praises of Makinde while playing deaf and dumb to the escapades of Auxiliary.
Oh! What did the Media do? Majority, not all of them, kept running down every opposition of the Governor year in year out while creating a messianic image of the Governor.
In fact, I daresay that Governor Makinde’s made up popularity is a making of a heavily induced Media.
I almost forgot the Traditional Institution.
The roles played by some of them is to say the least shameful.
For the first time, a Monarch was going from one Radio station to the other to campaign for the Governor!
How Makinde mesmerized them all!
May God save Makinde’s Successor.
