The term, helping someone to help ones self is often used when you are rendering an assistance to someone whose help you will definitely require in the future.
Local Government Election in Oyo state have been slated for April, 2024.
Oyo APC will be the main opposition political party at the election, albeit, a formidable one, considering the fact that the party has all three Senators, nine House of Representatives members, a Minister of the Federal Republic and about four House of Assembly members in Its fold.
That is good enough to give the PDP a good fight, provided there is honesty and unity of purpose.
The election is barely about a month away.
The Governor of Oyo state is not leaving anything to chance.
He had put in place a formidable campaign Team to oversee victory for all PDP candidates.
It is understandable that the APC have not done same considering the facts that electioneering processes require huge costs that is obviously not available for the party at the moment.
I think this is the time the party needs Its elected officials the most.
Our Senators, the Minister, elected Reps members and the House of Assembly members must take the bulls by the Horns and come forth for the party.
There are several reasons why the APC should not toy with the Local Government Election.
First, that election could determine whether Makinde will consolidate on his “popularity and acceptability” or vice versa.
Secondly, a woeful performance by the party, God forbid, will work untold dent on the already low morale of party men who have endured the shock of the loss of the gubernatorial election and who have seen the Local Government Election as an alternative.
Thirdly, the party have done so much to muster party men to commit to participating in the election and such efforts must be encouraged and supported.
Finally, the Local Government Election could be used to rejuvenate and reinvigorate the party towards 2027.
Imagine a situation where APC is able to win a number of Local Governments, which is very possible, such a situation will not only unsettle Makinde and the PDP, it will be a tonic for the APC moving forward.
If those who are lucky to be elected during the last general election come together to help the party at this point, the bitter truth is that it is a help rendered to themselves in the long run.
The well being of the party is much more needed by them.
What is required to heal an ailing platform is considerably cheaper as against what would be required to resurrect a dead platform.
May Oyo APC never die.
I humbly suggest and implore our elected officials to as a matter of urgency liaise with the party.
The coming election needs funding.
May God continue to enrich them.
SOLA ABEGUNDE.
