Nigerian Defence Headquarters has released its preliminary assessment of the security breach leading to the death of two officers and the kidnap of a third at the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA.
The assessment according to the release shows that the fleeing bandits gained acess and escaped the Academy’s barbwire fence along Airport road in Afaka.
It adds that bushy areas around the officers quarters leading to the fence allowed the bandits easy concealment and escape.
It also described the response time of the troops who responded to the aleert as being slow with the bandits having suuccessfully broken into 5 flats in the same block and escaped befoe the intevention of troops.
The bandits were also said adfter assessment to have escaped across the Airport road into an open farmland and bushy area near Gidan Gado Village in Afaka.
The bandits are believed to have escaped to either Bukuru and Maguzuwa axis or the Riyawa axis in Igabi Local Government area which is a known notorious bandits hideouts.
It says the area requires a robust clearance operation.
The assessment also called for a comprehensive review of the security arrangements within and around the Nigerian Defence Academy to avert future recurrence.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor has also visited the Academy for first hand information on the attack.
