AS former governor Nyesom Wike gains prominence in speculations over likely ministerial appointees to form President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has denied ceding the ministerial slot of the state to Wike. Rivers APC in response to media reports suggesting the party has ceded ministerial slot to Wike said in Port Harcourt Wednesday that the thought has never crossed its mind and the burden would be on President Bola Tinubu to respect party supremacy and not consider Wike for appointment. The Amalgamated Bola Tinubu Campaign Council, an APC interest group under the headship of…

I have seen that Oyo State PDP is terribly afraid of Distinguished Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin. The rate at which they reacted to Folarin’s harmless statement regarding his observation about the last gubernatorial election is curious. Incidentally, that is the first public statement Senator Folarin would make since INEC declared Seyi Makinde of PDP as winner of the election and the PDP is already catching cold. It is interesting to note that a statement directed much more at his own party men would elicit so much panic from the PDP! It is either the PDP is idle or they were…

The piece by Akeem Olatunji on behalf of Oyo State PDP concerning the statement made by Distinguished Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin is amusing to say the least. Folarin had a couple of days ago stated that he was thrown under the Bus during the gubernatorial election. A careful analysis of the statements made by Teslim showed that his statement was directed at arrangements within his Party. How the matter jumped over to concern Akeem Olatunji and the PDP is what I do not understand. The kind of anger dissipated by the PDP in this matter actually confirms the observations of…

Some days ago, the Oyo State Police Command arraigned a few accomplices of Mukaila Lamidi erstwhile Chairman of the Oyo State Park Management system before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ibadan. The said accomplices have been remanded in Prison custody while the matter was adjourned to a later date due to the issue of jurisdiction raised by defense Counsels. The step by the Police Command to arraign about eight of the suspects earlier arrested in relation to the allegations of illegal possession of firearms and other criminal allegations against Mukaila and other associates is commendable but it is not enough.…

All eyes are on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the world awaits those who will make his Cabinet. Of particular concern is who gets the President’s nod in Oyo State. Political activities before, during and after the general election have made Oyo a place of special interest. What will the President do? How will he treat the platform known as the All Progressives Congress, upon which he contested and won the Presidency? Will he strengthen the platform or are we about to witness the unthinkable, where the President will completely throw the Party to the dogs and strengthen dissidents masquerading…

Journey to perdition is the Title of an American block-buster. Perdition, according to the Advanced Learner’s Dictionary is described as “punishment that lasts forever after death”. These days, I shudder when I see how some individuals who have benefitted in no small measures from the APC have turned the Party to a punching bag. Making reckless and unguarded statements about the Party and Its Leaders have become fun to many. When things were normal, no one in his or her right senses would dare to work against his Party and come out to admit it publicly. Unfortunately, things have changed.…

The world is in a mourning mood. After a fruitless five-day search for a missing deep-sea submersible vessel with five passengers on board, its wreckage was eventually found last Thursday. The five occupants on board were killed in the process. The search had been spearheaded by a robotic diving vehicle deployed from a Canadian ship. The five were on a voyage to see the century-old wreckage of the famous Titanic by the time this catastrophic implosion occurred. The robotic vehicle had found the debris of the submersible Titan on the seabed, “some 1,600 feet (488 meters) from the bow of…
