The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Branch, has appealed to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to approve the immediate implementation of the 2026 SSANU/Federal Government Agreement for non-teaching staff of the institution.

The appeal was contained in a letter dated July 16, 2026, and jointly signed by the Branch Chairman, Comrade Fajoye Hamzat Oyelere, and the Branch Secretary, Comrade Owolawi Olusegun J.

According to the union, the agreement was successfully concluded and signed on June 29, 2026, following extensive negotiations between the Federal Government and the Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU.

SSANU noted that the agreement provides improved conditions of service, including enhanced remuneration and welfare packages aimed at cushioning the effects of the current economic hardship facing university workers across the country.

While acknowledging that the agreement was negotiated with the Federal Government, the union stressed that its implementation by state-owned universities has become necessary to promote equity within the university system, sustain industrial harmony, and improve staff productivity.

The association urged Governor Makinde to approve the immediate implementation of the agreement for LAUTECH staff and provide the necessary financial support to ensure its seamless execution.

SSANU also pointed to the examples set by the governments of Osun and Ekiti States, which it said had already demonstrated commitment to the welfare of university workers by providing full financial support for the implementation of the agreement in their respective state-owned universities.

The union appealed to the Oyo State Government to emulate the two neighbouring states by providing adequate funding for the implementation of the agreement at LAUTECH.

According to SSANU, the prevailing economic realities, including rising inflation, transportation costs, food prices, housing expenses, healthcare costs, and other essential commodities, have significantly reduced the purchasing power of workers’ salaries.

It stated that implementing the agreement would provide much-needed relief to workers, boost staff morale, strengthen commitment to service delivery, and further improve teaching, research, administration, and community service at the university.

The association expressed confidence in Governor Makinde’s reputation as a worker-friendly leader, noting that his administration has consistently shown commitment to the welfare of public servants.

SSANU said it chose the path of constructive engagement because of its confidence in the governor’s responsive leadership and appealed to him to once again demonstrate his commitment to workers’ welfare by approving the implementation of the 2026 SSANU/Federal Government Agreement for LAUTECH.

The union added that such a decision would further strengthen the cordial relationship between the Oyo State Government and the university workforce, preserve industrial peace, and reinforce the governor’s legacy as an advocate of workers’ welfare.
