After an unusual tumultuous build up, instigated by Governor Seyi Makinde, Oba Olakuleyin was eventually Installed and presented with the Staff and Instruments of office yesterday, 13th July, 2024.
Naturally, Ibadan should be relieved and allowed to enjoy the reign of the Monarch in peace but like Jogunomi, Governor Makinde would have none of that.
He chose the occassion of the Installation to start another controversies, this time around, a bare knuckle fight against the person he had targeted all along, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan Land, His Excellency, High Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
An amendment to section 4 of the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration had been passed by the Oyo state House of Assembly and same had been gazetted wherein the words ” .. the most senior High Chief” is substituted with the words “.. the most Senior Beaded Crown Oba”.
By virtue of that amendment, a person who doesn’t combine his position as an Ibadan High Chief with that of a Beaded Crown Oba can not become an Olubadan henceforth.
There is no doubts that the only Ibadan High Chief who has refused to wear the Beaded Crown is the current Otun Olubadan of Ibadan Land, High Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
No wonder, Makinde had insisted that the former Governor must withdraw the case he instituted to challenge the Beaded Crown High Chiefs as a pre condition for him to approve the appointment of Oba Olakuleyin.
In a very petty and vengeful spirit, the Governor, it was learnt, ensured that a copy of the gazette was enclosed in every pamphlets of the program of events.
What a petty and desperate thing to do!
When some of us raised the alarm that Makinde was on a vengeful mission against his benefactor, not many agreed with us.
Why he has chosen to be a human being who takes delights in repaying good with evil is what still baffles me.
Sadly, the Governor is metarmophorsing into something very dangerous.
He is so full of himself now that he must have seen himself as equal to God.
For him to be targeting Senator Ladoja with some obnoxious Law, immediately after Installing an Olubadan says so much about his inner thoughts.
Is it that he is hoping that the present Monarch doesn’t live long or what?
At least, for him to be so sure of seeing his vengeance through, one of two things must happen.
It is either he is hoping that the present Monarch dies while he is still the Governor of Oyo state or perhaps, carry out the act through a puppet who succeeds him.
Both circumstances are practically beyond his whims and caprices.
Only God Almighty, the giver of life determines when to take it.
Further more, Governor Makinde lacks the wherewithal to determine who it is, that will succeed him.
That is for God Almighty to decide.
What exactly has come over this Governor?
God has been good to him despite his shortcomings. Yet, he is not satisfied.
He must compete with God so as to satisfy his sadistic ego.
The damage he has done to the Traditional Institutions in Oyo state is enormous. Yet, he must carry the recklessness to the future.
Let me tell Governor Makinde that when things go awry, there won’t be anyone to share the consequences of his deeds with him.
There was this story of a particular environmental health officer, (wolewole) in those days.
His name was Ajuwon and apologies to those who go by that name.
Ajuwon was a very fierce officer who, drunk with power, used to slap and kick the people of the communities he was posted to serve. He was a terrific personality.
All Ajuwon required to get into action was for his superiors to give him the instructions to attack and all hell will be let loose.
Not so long, Ajuwon ran mad and the only words that never left his mouth were the orders his bosses used to yell at him.
” Ajuwon gbaa leti, Ajuwon jii laya, bi e se fee se Ajuwon le se Ajuwon yi o”. Ajuwon slap him, Ajuwon shove him. You have done what you wanted to do with Ajuwon.
Governor Makinde can not be alone in this shenanigans.
Unfortunately, when things boomerang, his unknown accomplices will distance themselves from him.
How could someone be so intoxicated with power to the extent that he wants to control everything?
Assuming Governor Makinde is the occupier of Aso Rock, would he burn the whole world in anger?
I feel personally sad because the puppet, who sits as Speaker, presiding over the many terrible Laws under Governor Makinde is actually from the same place as yours truly.
We all know the House of Assembly is docile and that the only thing they are good at is to keep approving the series of Loans by the Governor.
At least, the ineptitude should have been kept at that level.
It is instructive that the snake of conspiracy nurtured by the Governor around the Olubadan Stool was only scorched but not killed.
It is incumbent on all sons and daughters of Ibadan Land to rise and defend their heritage.
I also wish to implore citizens of Oyo state to take interest in and show support to the Patriots who have been in court challenging an earlier interference of Governor Makinde in the Chieftaincy Laws of Oyo state.
They are Patriots who saw tomorrow and they deserve our support.
Onilu o ni fe ko tu.
SOLA ABEGUNDE.
