Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) staged a protest on Monday against recent appointments made by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, alleging that he prioritizes his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyalists over their members.
During a press conference in Abuja, FCT party leaders expressed their discontent and urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevent Wike from undermining their political structure in the nation’s capital.
According to The Punch, it was reported that the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, has faced criticism for his appointments since he assumed office, with appointments such as Chidi Amadi as Chief of Staff, Felix Obuah as Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Michael Chinda as Senior Special Adviser on Land, Urban and Regional Planning, and Barivure Fred as a senior aide on Environment and Waste Management drawing particular ire from APC members in the FCT.
Abdulwahab Ekekhide, a prominent figure within the FCT chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), condemned the minister’s appointments as prejudiced and lacking respect for FCT APC members who contributed to the president’s electoral success.
He said, “We call on Mr. President to caution the minister. Let him start empowering the party or else, the All Progressives Congress will struggle to get two percent and the President may lose the next area councils election in 2027 if the situation remains this way. These recent appointment have shown that Wike wants to finally kill and bury the party. His agenda we don’t know but we will resist any further attempts to ridicule the party.”
