The Oyo state House of Assembly secretly approved the request of Governor Makinde to further borrow the sum of 150b Naira.
The process of the said approval was shrouded in complete mystery.
Interestingly, Governor Makinde purchased a private Jet not long after the mystery approval of the 150b Naira loan.
What reasonable inference will descerninh minds draw from the scenario above?
The issue of Governor Makinde buying a private Jet when the people of Oyo state are suffering from hunger and deprivation is one story.
If it is certain that the Governor made the purchase from his personal purse, there nothing anyone could do to fault him.
However, a Governor who made suspicious arrangements to borrow a whopping 150b Naira in a period when he had received over 200b Naira as allocation from the Federation accounts within the last few months and moreso, with no projects to justify the expenditures, such a Governor is actually inviting suspicion.
What is rather amusing is the fact that the same Makinde, bedecked in a garment of suspicion is still the one championing an onslaught against the Federal Government that is on record to have released so much money for the state Governors.
The subtle but incessant attacks by Governor Makinde against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) must be worrying the president and those who sold him the idea of jettisoning his Party and Its candidate during in favour of Makinde and the PDP during the March 28, 2023 gubernatorial election.
I remember describing Seyi Makinde as a bad investment for the president sometimes ago but, recently, Makinde have gone beyond a bad market to a bizarre handshake that is going beyond the elbow for the president.
Even, those who felt aggrieved within the APC at the time and resulted to use their closeness to the president to advise him and urge him to jettison his party and candidate in favour of Makinde must be very uncomfortable now because, obviously, they have blindfolded the president and led him to a naked trap.
On March 28, 2023, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the benevolent spirit who helped Seyi Makinde cracked his kernels.
The decision of the then president elect was hinged on pressures from disgruntled APC aspirants and stakeholders from Oyo state who failed or refused to manage the pains of losing out in the primaries within the APC and there by chose to be spoilers.
The idea that Seyi Makinde got Tinubu’s help as a result of some arrangements with the G-5 Governors is secondary.
Those who misdirected the president elect then were mostly disgruntled elements within the Oyo APC.
Unfortunately, as it appears today, they have successfully misdirected the president.
Seyi Makinde is a typical Arijenimadaru.
He is a man who loves to thrive in controversies.
During the tenure of the former president Mohammadu Buhari, Oyo state, most especially, Igangan in Ibarapa North was terrorized by murderous herders.
Governor Makinde did practically nothing to secure the affected local Government until a non state actor, Sunday Igboho rose to the occasion.
Interestingly, when the late Governor Akeredolu of Ondo state initiated and championed the course of the creation of the Amotekun Corp, not minding the consequences of his election which was at that time being challenged at the supreme court, Governor Makinde jumped on the fray and almost took the shine off the initiator, Rotimi Akeredolu.
That is vintage Seyi Makinde.
In the days of the G-5, Seyi Makinde was the poster boy.
He left governance completely and was always in the fore front at all time. Even after the election, Seyi Makinde was always in Aso Rock.
The question is, what have changed?
I dare say the only thing that have changed is the fact that Seyi Makinde is manifesting his natural character.
He is a man who loves to ride on the waves.
He is a master in the game of use and dump.
He had finished with his former boss, Wike and Tinubu.
There is no doubt that things are hard in the country.
The Government headed by his benefactor, president Tinubu and which his friend and boss Wike is a part of is not popular with Nigerians as we speak.
In his characteristics manner, Makinde have seen an opening to change to the other shoe.
As a fair weather friend, it is an opportunity for Governor Makinde to seek to become a champion on the other side and that is exactly what he is doing. That is what he has always done.
How did he treat those who facilitated and entered into alliance with him in his first tenure?
What happened to those who saw themselves as champion of his Government during the first tenure?
I read the statement of the Oyo state Commissioner for information yesterday where he was replying to the Federal Government’s challenge to the PDP Governors to give accounts of the humongous amounts of money received from the Federation account since Tinubu assumed office.
Cleverly, Dotun Oyelade picked one item, payment of salaries and avoided the important question of giving accounts for the over 200b Naira Makinde have received so far.
To understand Makinde’s penchant for pettiness and mischief, the Federal Government’s allegations were directed against the PDP Governors in collective capacity.
Makinde knows that some of those colleagues of his were owing salaries.
Instead of discussing with his brother Governors to do a collective response, moreso, that the communique issued by the PDP Governors was read in his official residence, Makinde opted to defend himself and his Government alone.
The same Makinde who is boasting of payment of salaries failed to address how much he is owning in deductions and the fact that salaries are no longer prompt.
He failed to address how much debts he has borrowed despite the increased allocation.
It is unfortunate that Governor Makinde who have impoverished Oyo state and increased Its debts profile monumentally will have the mouth to confront the Federal Government.
Oyo state is borrowing, the Governor is buying a private Jet and yet, playing politics of mischief.
Like I said, I do not blame Makinde.
I blame the president and his advisers who misled him into investing in a serial betrayer.
The results of the betrayal of the Oyo APC in 2023 is what the Government is harvesting now.
