All eyes are on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the world awaits those who will make his Cabinet.
Of particular concern is who gets the President’s nod in Oyo State.
Political activities before, during and after the general election have made Oyo a place of special interest.
What will the President do? How will he treat the platform known as the All Progressives Congress, upon which he contested and won the Presidency?
Will he strengthen the platform or are we about to witness the unthinkable, where the President will completely throw the Party to the dogs and strengthen dissidents masquerading as “aggrieved stakeholders?
Will the President give away the Ministerial slot to Makinde as an appreciation for ” supporting him to win Oyo State”?
Whatever the President does, so far as it departs from demanding from and accepting the nominees for Ministerial and other appointments will be considered an aberration.
It is unfortunate that a situation has been created in Oyo State where it is envisaged that Federal appointments could be taken outside the purview of the Party.
The President as the National Leader of the Party is expected to strengthen the Party at all times.
A situation where some individuals, relying on their acclaimed closeness to the President and having publicly engaged in anti party activities would still be considered for appointments by the President.
That, with due respect to the President will amount to aiding anti party activities.
So also is a situation where Seyi Makinde, an elected Governor on the platform of the PDP taking the Ministerial slot for Oyo State to the detriment of APC would be considered unfortunate.
So much have been said about “an agreement” between Mr. President and some individuals, Seyi Makinde inclusive.
The pertinent question to ask at this point is, should Oyo APC suffer for an “agreement” they were never part of?
Except we deceive ourselves, Oyo APC undeservedly lost the Governorship election to this mysterious “agreement”.
That loss of the Governorship election should be enough to atone for “an agreement” the Party is not aware of let alone participating in.
The monkey can not destroy the maize at the farm and Ogungbe made to account for the maize he didn’t destroy! Aaya o le je agbado loko, ka maa waa gba Ogungbe leti nile.
The President holds the yam and the knife. If the APC will survive in Oyo State, it is up to the President and vice versa.
If those who made reckless statements about the Party and actually went ahead to work against the Party are rewarded with juicy appointments by the President, a negative precedent which is bound to haunt the Party in the future must have been set.
Political Parties are guided by rules and each individual is considered to have mortgaged his or her conscience to the Party by the time they join.
The supremacy of the political party is settled.
The President can not afford to set a precedent that will be seen as challenging the supremacy of the Party that, to the glory of God made him President.
