When Governor Makinde unleashed the Police against his former associate and Chairman of the Oyo Transport Agency, Lamidi Mukaila popularly known as Auxiliary, I was so sure the action lacked sincerity.
For me, the Governor, in his usual ruthless manner was just punishing an errant former associate whose handshake went beyond the elbow.
Though, it seemed the Governor, possessed by rage went too far in the procedure employed to crush a fellow who overdressed his luck.
The way the dust is settling on the whole saga, it is obvious that vendetta rather than the need to address security concerns and reviewing the Transport system is the sole purpose of sending the Police after Auxiliary by Governor Makinde.
Unfortunately though, both the Governor and the Police have exposed more than too much to allow the incident to just die a natural death as they would hope.
The quantum of dangerous weapons allegedly recovered from the Hotel and home of Auxiliary is too much to be overlooked.
Good enough, about seventy eight individuals were paraded by the Police as suspects and or accomplices.
What is the position of the investigation? Has the suspects been profiled? Who and who are culpable? When will they be taken to court?
How far have the Police gone on tracking down the principal suspect Auxiliary? What efforts are in place to quickly bring him to justice?
This is a matter the Governor must come clean on by ensuring that the Police are constantly briefing the public as investigation progresses.
The quantum of weapons involved here is too huge.
The people of Oyo State are entitled to know how such number of sophisticated weapons were acquired by a stark illiterate, someone who has close affinities to the Governor for that matter.
From my findings, I do not think the whole Amotekun Command of Oyo State have that number of Pump Action guns. From what I heard, only one Pump Action gun is given per local government!
Like I have said both Governor Makinde and Auxiliary and indeed the Police are on trial here.
One is not encouraged by statements made by some individuals close to Governor Makinde who have, in public statements made attempts to trivialize and personalize the issue at hand.
The Governor will do his image a lot of good by ensuring that this issue is not trivialized as his close associates have opined.
SOLA ABEGUNDE.
