Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos state took oath of office as President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria on 29th Day of May, 2023 having defeated his closest challengers, Abubakar Atiku of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
In about a fortnight to his first tenure of four years, a critical assessment of his actions is a pointer to the fact that the man, now President of the Nation must have endured so much in the years preceding his election to the office of President.
Tinubu during these years had the unenviable task of being seen and looked at with the eyes of the preceding Administration, one which he was generally perceived as the harbinger but unfortunately, one which drew the anger and condemnation of majority of Nigerians, particularly, the youthful generation.
Worthy of mention in this regard are the incessant farmers/herders clashes which resulted in the destruction of lives and properties, most especially in the Southern part of the Country and the End SARS agitation by the youths of Nigeria which eventually ended in a sour taste in the mouths to mention but a few.
In all this National events, Tinubu was judged, condemned and castigated. To many observers, the man, Tinubu was selfish, self centered and only cared about himself and his “inordinate ambitions”. Indeed, it looked right at the time.
The fact that the APC National Leader always maintained a silence and when he spoke, such statements were “neither here or there” also helped to reinforce the general perception of a “selfish” picture didn’t help matters.
In fact, Tinubu’s perceived silence during and after the End SARS protests put the final lid perception by the larger populace.
The Biblical story of how David was chosen as King of Israel in particular, the Prophet Samuel’s wrong impression of the elderly brother of David and how God told the Prophet that though Samuel was impressed with the physical outlook of David’s elder brother, He, God, doesn’t act based on the physical outlook of a person but rather by the heart of the person is apt when you analyze the man, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who lived in Burdillon and the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu PBAT who occupies Aso Rock Presidential Villa since the 29th May, 2023.
No President of Nigeria, whether elected or Military have won and warm hearts at the rate Tinubu have been doing.
Beginning from his speech, appointments made so far, few Policy statements and responses to serious National issues, the Tinubu who lived in Burdillon and who we have all vilified was forced to take on a fake personality so as to arrive at the destination God has Graciously taken him today.
And it is for the greater good of all.
Indeed, the man in Burdillon must have suffered a lot in silence.
Enduring all the undeserved insults and condemnation of Nigerians who, as events have shown, misunderstood him completely.
We must thank God for his life. We must appreciate God for giving Nigeria a President we truly require at this moment.
May the PBAT succeed.
