Kano State Governor, Mr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has criticised his colleagues and political friends in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for abandoning him and officially recognising a faction which has taken control of the party machinery in the state.
Ganduje is particularly not happy with the Governors of Jigawa and Ekiti States, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar and Kayode Fayemi for ditching him despite their closeness and open-hearted discussion over orchestrated move by the Senator Ibrahim Shekarau factional group to control the party, saying he obtained promises of their support.
Unfortunately for Ganduje, this was not to be as the duo officially recognised the Shekarau group leaving the former scratching his head saying that he’s considering option B without stating clearly what he meant.
Ganduje expressed surprise at an event on Saturday, in Kano during a public gathering to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Aminu Kano centre for democracy, both Fayemi and Badaru
addressed Alhaji Haruna Danzago as Kano State Chairman of the ailing party.
Recall that a Federal High Court in Abuja had nullified the congresses of the Kano State APC conducted by Governor Ganduje-led faction of the party.
The presiding judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, on Tuesday instead upheld the congresses held by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau-led faction of the party in the state.
Delivering his judgement, the judge had ruled that the Shekarau-led faction “tagged G-7” conducted their congresses that was signed by the 7-man committee of the APC.
Consequently, the court ruled that all the congresses held by the Shekaru-led faction of the APC were valid.
Muntaka Bala Sulyman and 17,980 members of the APC had earlier filed the suit before the court against the National Caretaker Secretary, Sen. John Akpanudoedehe and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Speaking before the mammoth crowd that gathered for the event on Saturday, Governor Fayemi who was the guest speaker of the occasion organized by Bayero University, Kano recognized the leadership of Danzago faction in accordance with the court verdict.
Fayemi presented a paper at the occasion entitled ‘Democracy, Good Governance and the Question of National Integration’, with the chairman of the occasion being Badaru.
Badaru pointedly called Danzago, “Chairman of My great Party APC Kano state chapter,” to the consternation of Ganduje.
The recognition of Danzago faction by the two governors of the party was another big blow and setback for Ganduje who is supporting the Abdullahi Abbas leadership faction.
Ganduje who was a deputy governor to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso before becoming the governor in 2015 fell out with Kwankwaso.
The latest political defeat has come hard on the governor who told aides that there should be option B without elaborating what that meant.
It’s unlikely that he will defect to join Kwankwaso, who has since established himself as a formidable politician in the PDP and is hoping to clinch the party’s ticket to contest the presidential election in 2023.
