Less than three weeks to the State Congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo State leadership of the party has been urged to consider zoning the State Chairmanship of the party to Oke-Ogun Zone 2 of the state.
According to APC Oke-Ogun Justice Group (APC OJG), the move will not only address marginalisation of Oke-Ogun Zone 1, which consists of Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola and Iwajowa local government areas but also place the APC on good electoral advantage during the general elections in 2023 in view of the strategic political significance of the zone in the determination of the electoral successes of the party.
In a statement jointly signed by its Coordinator, Hon. Wasiu Bello and Publicity Secretary, Hon. Iyanda Salahudeen, OJG noted that Oke-Ogun Zone 2, which comprises ATISBO, Saki West, Saki East, Irepo, Olorunsogo and Oorelope LGAs have produced chieftains of the party from the zone who have held most critical positions in government at the State and national levels.
APC OJG appealed to all the Oyo State APC stakeholders to give consideration to the call, saying, “Since 1999, Oke-Ogun Zone 1 has only produced Barrister Iyiola Oladokun as the highest ranking elected political officer holder. Barrister Iyiola Only served a single term of four years while Oke-Ogun Zone 2 has produced Chief Michael Koleosho as Secretary to Oyo State Government, Hon. Yekeen Popoola as ALGON Chairman, Justice Munta Abimbola as Chief Judge of Oyo State, Rt. Hon. AbdulWasi Musa as Deputy Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Barrister Adebayo Shittu as a federal minister, Mrs. Hannah Ogunesan as Head of Service, among others”.
“Chief Moses Alake was elected and served as Deputy Governor for eight years. Our zonal and state leaders are urged to consider Oke-Ogun Zone 1 for highest elective position in 2023 elections”.
“Having the next State Chairman of our party from Zone 2 will afford Oke-Ogun Zone 1 an opportunity to produce either governor, deputy governor, senator, minister, parliament speaker, Secretary to Oyo State Government and other key positions in 2023″.
“In the spirit of oneness, equity and justice, our agitation is based on balance of power between the two zones, which will form a buffer against the political infiltration of the entire zone by other rival political parties ahead of the 2023 elections”.
“It is equally imperative to say that, having a very experienced political leadership figure with huge administrative wherewithal, competencies, robust knowledge-base and bureaucratic skills produced from Oke-Ogun Zone 2, will no doubt, give APC its needed leap to super victory in the 2023 general elections” the statement concluded.
